SOLO

Solo is a series of posters created using the Roman and Korean alphabets. Each artwork was crafted based on the songs Yun (by RM of BTS featuring Erykah Badu), Snooze (by Agust D feat. Woosung & Ryuichi Sakamoto), and Set Me Free Pt.2 (by Jimin of BTS).

The artworks not only draw inspiration from each musician's albums but also incorporate their thoughts expressed in promotional interviews, documentaries, and the overarching concepts that shaped the creation of their individual albums and music videos.

“I Wanna Be a Human ‘Fore I Do Some Art” consists of two artworks primarily inspired by RM of BTS's Indigo solo album. Since the lyrics are originally in English, no translation was required.

“Dream - The Beginning May Be Humble” maintains the Korean artist’s identity by featuring a lettering artwork in Hangul, accompanied by an English translation. A Korean typeface was not utilized for this piece.

“Going Insane To Stay Sane” draws inspiration from Set Me Free Pt.2, where part of the lyrics is inspired by the German poem "Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen” by Rainer Maria Rilke. The poem was also hand-painted on Jimin’s body for the music video's aesthetics. To preserve the musician's Korean identity, a decision was made to blend a style based on a Blackletter variation (adapted) with a copperplate calligraphy variation. Both styles were adjusted to Hangul, maintaining the same meaning but in different languages.

In the same way that the artists created their respective solo albums to discover their unique identities, I drew inspiration from them and incorporated some of their verses to find my own.
